As a team, we (State Senator Dan Seum and State Representative Kevin D. Bratcher) have been working to improve the traffic and appearance of the Bardstown corridor from I-265 (Gene Snyder) to the Bullitt County line. The latest item in this quest was securing over $3 million in the Road Fund passed earlier this month in the Kentucky General Assembly Special Session. This money will be used to completely redesign the interchange of Bardstown Road and the Gene Snyder. This major project will include a brand new dedicated lane for the safer, easier and faster movement of traffic off of Bardstown Road onto the Gene Snyder. Also, this project will allow access for the new South Point Commons shopping development. As you may know, this development at the SE corner of the interchange will be Louisville’s premier commercial center and we are working closely with the developer (and watching) to ensure the project is neighborhood friendly and upscale. It has been estimated that this development will greatly increase the value of our surrounding neighborhoods. This project is the latest in our continuing effort to improve the areas we represent, Southern and Southeast Jefferson County. Other projects we have accomplished in this area include: *Securing Cable Barriers for ALL of the Gene Snyder to reduce the terrible results of uncontrolled cars entering lanes of opposing traffic. *Rebuilding the berm bordering the Glenmary subdivision and Bardstown Road. *Working with LG&E to relocate an unsightly cell tower planned for the area. *Widening the Southbound ramp off of the Gene Snyder onto Bardstown Road to four lanes. As always, please never hesitate to call either one of us if you have questions or concerns. Sincerely, Kentucky State Senator Dan Seum and State Rep. Kevin D, Bratcher June 25, 2010
