*2008 --
•Alternative teacher certification: Senate Bill 64
creates incentives to help train those with math and science
degrees who want to teach.
•Amusement park
safety:Requires more frequent inspections of
amusement park rides, prevents anyone younger than 18 from
operating rides.
•Animal cruelty: Increases penalties for torturing
dogs or cats.
•Cancer: Provides Medicaid coverage for breast and
cervical cancer treatments for uninsured women, and SB96
requires insurers to cover colorectal cancer screenings.
•Energy: Creates incentives for homeowners to
use solar, wind energy, encourages energy efficiency.
•Math and science: Offers incentives to increase
number of students taking advanced math, science courses.
•Sex offenders: Broadens child-sex-abuse laws and
increases penalties for abusers and those who fail to report it.
•Trauma care: Creates a statewide trauma-care
program.
*2007 -- HB279 - A bill to
raise the age of dropping out of school from 16 to 17. This bill did not
pass. But I will continue each year in trying to pass this bill.
*2006 - Junk Food - This
bill passed and requires schools to provide healthy food choices during lunch
period. It reduces or eliminates junk food.
*2004 -- Marriage definition amendment: After many attempts, SB245 finally passed. This put on
the ballot the question of what is marriage in Kentucky. The voters were
allowed to decide if the Kentucky constitution should be amended to include
marriage in Kentucky as ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN. I supported
this measure because I believe marriage should be between one man and one
woman --ONLY! The Amendment passed by almost 75%.
*2002 - Safe Schools - SB52 - This bill passed and it will require law enforcement
to notify the principal of a school when a student of that school is
involved in a drug or deadly weapon charge.
*2002- School employees - HB309 passed giving school employees greater
flexibility with their sick days. *2004 - HB
108 -- Fetal Homicide bill passes: After several attempts over several years,
we passed a bill making it a crime to kill an unborn baby.
